I doubt anyone will ever write better horse-stories than Walter Farley; kids love them, and I'd rate them equal to "Treasure Island" or "The Jungle Book" as far as entertainment value.

've read all the Black Stallion and the Island Stallion books since I was a teenager, and read them many times. I'm still at it.
Another exciting adventure for the Black and Alec.
It was a good book I did not like that Pam got killed but the story was good. I have all most all of the Black Stallion books in hard cover but I am thinking about getting newer ones as I can so keep me in mind if you get hard cover Black Stallion books for sale . Thank You Carole Henderson
This book really was unbelievably bad. Poorly written, with events that are simply not credible - to the point of stupidity, and very vague descriptions that make it hard to picture what is going on. It is very disjointed and at times verges on incoherence. The "Native American" aspects are a hodgepodge of Hollywood-type crap, and the apocalyptic stuff is just plain silly.

I began reading the Black Stallion series in grade school, in the 1960's. I've loved the stories, and the main characters, for most of my life, and finally fulfilled a childhood dream of owning every one. I should have stopped before buying and reading this one. I can sympathize with the author's personal loss, but i don't expect to spend my hard-earned money on his outpouring of grief; if he needed the catharsis, he should have written the book - and then burned it. And/Or spent his own money on a therapist.

The rest of the series if fine, some of the books are great. Individual books will appeal more or less to individual readers, of course; but I consider them to be well-written, and stay reasonably within the scope of the author's knowledge and/or research. But this final book in the series is a waste of time and money, and it's really a shame that the series had to end so very poorly.
